Your fire peril is often gauged by one variable - the power of the local community to put out a fire. Why? Because the data industry has failed to provide data that looks at the susceptibility of a property to actually have a fire.
Until now.
Introducing Structure Fire Score from PropertyLens. Structure Fire Score is a fire risk rating system that grades every US block group A-F based on actual fire outcomes, how often fires start and how destructive they are when they do. Built on 2.4M verified structure fires across 20 years, our 12M hydrants database, and 25+ additional factors, it gives insurance carriers fine-grained, outcome-based fire risk intelligence at the block-group level instead of community-wide approximations.
Structure Fire Grades separates fire risk into three distinct measures.
- The frequency grade shows how often fires start - A-rated areas average 1-2 fires per 10,000 homes per year, while F-rated areas average 15-25+.
- The severity grade shows what happens when fires occur - A-rated areas have less than 1% total loss rate (fires stay small), while F-rated areas hit 20%+ total loss rate (fires destroy buildings).
- The overall grade (A-F) combines frequency and severity into one headline number. Together, these grades show carriers that a neighborhood with high frequency but low severity (kitchen fires, quick suppression) is fundamentally different from a neighborhood with low frequency but high severity (older construction, catastrophic losses). This separation means carriers can price frequency and severity independently, decline high-severity risk selectively, and recover margin on properties currently subsidized by community-level models.
Structure Fire Score blows the "one size fits all" rating assumption out of the water by showing how, across a single fire department, there can be a range of both fire frequency and severity.
Structure Fire Score shows that "A's" are 12x less likely to have a fire than "F's".
With Structure Fire Score, insurers now have the power to price according to both the inherent risk of the neighborhood AND the ability to put water on those fires.
Structure Fire Score is FREE to existing users of our PropertyProfile API.
